How to See Your Hard Drive on the Desktop
If you have a Mac with the Leopard or Snow Leopard operating system, you may have noticed that your Macintosh Hard Drive icon isn't visible on the desktop. This is because Apple ships your computer with this preference off. In order to make the hard drive icon appear on the desktop, all you need to do is turn on that preference. To do that, simply go to the Finder menu and click on Preferences. Under the General Tab, check the box next to Hard Disks and you will now see that your Macintosh HD has appeared on the desktop. In addition to this preference, you can also click on the Sidebar Tab and check the box next to Hard Disks and that will make your Macintosh HD appear on the side of any Finder window.
